Battlefield: REDSEC treads both familiar and new ground in the battle royale genre. Its class-based system offers the opportunity for unique strategies to be employed, and the inclusion of heavy offensive vehicles is sure to annoy many players that come out on the losing end.
This guide is a broad selection of tips and advice that you can make use of on your journey to snatch a win in Battlefield: REDSEC.
Class Selection
The Engineer is the clear best choice, especially for players who find themselves solo after squadmates are eliminated. Not only can they crack open safes with their Repair Tool, but they can also repair and maintain vehicles. In anti-vehicle warfare, they outpace other classes with their missile launchers that can guide ordnance to specific zones on the hull where the armor is thinnest for maximum effect.
Recon comes in a close second as situational awareness is key to avoid early elimination in REDSEC. The Recon Drone can provide an early warning to the operator as enemies enter the vicinity while holding a location, or provide reconnaissance while moving to another area.
Accept Missions
Missions are the lifeblood of REDSEC matches as they can provide you with superior weaponry and gadgetry. Simply listen for the audible cue that Missions are available and scan through them as quickly as possible to determine which ones you want to undertake. There are many rewards to be reaped, ranging from Advanced Weapons to Air and Artillery Strikes.
The reason that time is of the essence to snag Missions is because there is a timer for their continued availability in any given match. It appears to be based on remaining players, and once 50 odd players are sent back to the lobby, Missions are disabled. If you can be efficient, you can potentially undertake as many as four Missions in every match, with the selection itself rotating over time.
The ultimate Mission reward in REDSEC has got to be the gold Superior-tier Vehicle Keycard, since the endgame circle frequently involves a face-off between armored squads.
Boats
Circle of Death willing, consider using the surrounding waters in order to traverse the western and southern outer edges of the map. Most players stick to solid ground and barely even notice boats speeding out in the distance. Boats can be relatively easy targets while out in the open, but maintaining a high rate of speed can mitigate that. This strategy is situational of course, as the circle can end up anywhere. It is also not conducive to the completion of most Missions, and assumes that you and your squad are fully geared up already.
Tanks
The inclusion of heavy offensive vehicles in REDSEC means that you will be encountering tanks and armored personal carriers more often than not, particularly in the final circle. Which also means you are better off having one at your disposal yourself. Getting a tank is somewhat random: if you happen to find a Vehicle Keycard in a crate, then you are luckier than most. Other players can drop their own collected Keycards as well.
The other avenue is a little more reliable, and involves scanning your available Missions for rewards that include the gold Superior-tier Vehicle Keycard. There does not seem to be a particular mission that guarantees it as a reward every single time, however Decryption has seen the highest likelihood for some.
But even completing the mission is only half the battle: you could get ambushed both while collecting the Keycard airdrop which is fair game for all, as well as when you arrive at the Vehicle Trailer to collect your tank. The Trailer itself is somewhat finicky to unlock as the Keycard only works on its rear right panel, exactly where the icon is located.
Now begins the harrowing wait for the rear ramp to lower and the rear doors to swing open so that you can make your entry. It takes approximately 25 long seconds for the doors to open far enough in order for you to squeeze through and board the tank inside. All the while, the klaxon will be blaring loud enough for any enemy players in the vicinity to be alerted to a vehicle being unlocked. Your best course of action is to distance yourself from the Trailer and remain concealed. Calculate how much time it takes to close that distance so that you can be positioned between the twin ramps as soon as the doors clear. Sprint towards it as soon as you have determined that the coast is clear, and board the Trailer to claim your tank.
Even now you are still not out of danger: enemy players can call in an Air or Artillery Strike on your location. Either feint your tank’s exit from the Trailer to force their strike initiation while remaining inside, or exit fully and then quickly reverse away from the Trailer in the opposite direction.
Tanks are fairly vulnerable to more experienced players at this time, susceptible not just to Strikes, but also to a mere two well-placed RPG hits, among other anti-vehicle tactics. Being an Engineer, or having multiple in the squad using their Repair Tool can be a lifesaver.
Thermite Sabotage
One major mechanic overlooked by the vast majority of REDSEC players is with regards to the thermite charge that is supplied by default to every player regardless of class. It is intended as an anti-vehicle counter for those unlucky enough to lack access to airstrikes or missiles when facing down an armored opponent.
Thermite Sabotage requires you to get up close and personal with the tank however, as it has to be placed directly on the hull in order to then damage both it and its crew over time, and is potentially a suicide mission to undertake.
Those are some general tips to help you win matches in Battlefield: REDSEC.
