Just as the recent leak suggested, Battlefield is entering the free-to-play battle royale space with Battlefield Redsec. It is available to download on PS5 right now on the PlayStation Store, and is PS5 Pro Enhanced for owners of Sonyâs enhanced video game console.
Battlefield 6 free Redsec game doesnât require PS Plus
Battlefield Redsec (stylized Battlefield REDSEC) is the franchiseâs first free-to-play battle royale game. It includes several ways to play. Battle Royale Initiation is a mode for newcomers that pits a maximum player base of 48 against each other in a scaled-down map of Fort Lyndon, the gameâs setting. Gauntlet brings eight squads of four players in a round-based elimination experience. Of course, there is a standard Battle Royale mode that sees 100 players try to be the last survivor as a Circle of Death engulfs the map.

âBattlefield 6 launched a little over two weeks ago and shattered every franchise record we have, quickly becoming one of the biggest launches of the yearâŚand weâre not done yet,â said Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield. âThe next chapter of our Battlefield universe launches today with Battlefield REDSEC, our new experience that includes Battle Royale crafted with the seriesâ explosive DNA, to our cutthroat squad competition mode Gauntlet, and even new ways for our community to build and experience Portal. REDSEC is everything you love about Battlefield â destruction, intense combat, vehicular carnage â in a new, massive playspace thatâs free for everyone to experience.â
Like other free-to-play games on PS5, like Fortnite or Skate, a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to play the game. As long as they have an internet connection, theyâll be able to enjoy EAâs latest battle royale.
Battlefield Redsec launches alongside Season 1 of Battlefield 6, which brings new content to the popular first-person shooter.
âWe already revealed that this is our most ambitious roadmap in Battlefield history and today demonstrates our commitment to that,â said Vince Zampella, Executive Vice President. âThis is part of our promise to deliver a wide variety of quality content on a consistent basis, ensuring youâll always have something new and unexpected to engage with whenever you jump into the fight.â
Battlefield 6 is available now on PS5.
