Ghost of Yōtei Has Already Outsold Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PS5 – Rumor

Keeping pace with its predecessor, Ghost of Yōtei’s sales have been quite strong since launch, especially in the United States. However, it’s reportedly outpaced another major open-world triple-A title this year – Assassin’s Creed Shadows, at least on Sony’s own console.

According to Alinea Analytics, Yōtei allegedly sold 2.5 million copies in less than two weeks while Shadows reached 2.4 million in seven months. Total sales for the latter are reportedly over 4.3 million, with the majority (56 percent) on PS5. Of course, as the analyst firm, there are reasons beyond simply a difference in quality.

Alongside a built-in audience following the success of Ghost of Tsushima, there’s more crossover between those who played first and second-party PlayStation titles for Yōtei compared to Shadows. Even in Japan, only 1.6 percent of PS5 players played Ubisoft’s title (with Ghost of Yōtei reportedly more than three times that figure).

Regardless, both titles continue to chug on. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will release two more Title Updates before its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 this December. Meanwhile, Sucker Punch Productions is working on Legends mode for Yōtei, launching sometime in 2026. It hasn’t committed to DLC, instead seeking feedback from fans on what they would like to see.
