Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Upgrade Unites Fans But Will Break Your Heart

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans unite over what they want to see in the rumoured next-gen upgrade, but prepare to have your heart broken.

For many gamers across the world, Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, as reflected by its 97 Metacritic score.

“Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde Gang are outlaws on the run. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.”

Despite being released in 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before being ported to PC the following year, Red Dead Redemption 2 probably looks better than most AAA games on modern consoles. Not to mention that its high-octane gunslinging action and immersive world will never get tiresome.

However, as great as Red Dead Redemption 2 is, I don’t think many of us would say no to a new-gen upgrade, especially as there are no major improvements to the game when being played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Recently, rumours of a new-gen release of Red Dead Redemption 2 have been picking up a lot of traction, but at the time of writing, Rockstar Games has not confirmed that speculation.

That being said, that hasn’t stopped fans from letting Rockstar Games know what they’d like to see in a potential remaster, but one new request in particular might just break your heart.

Before we proceed, there will be a major spoiler for Red Dead Redemption 2, so consider this to be your final spoiler warning.

“What features would you love to see in a next-gen upgrade of Red Dead Redemption 2?” asked Redditor Wrong-Masterpiece-14.

He_who_smacks simply replied, “A cure.”

For those who don’t know, Red Dead Redemption 2’s protagonist, Arthur Morgan, had tuberculosis, a bacterial infection that is very treatable today, but in the late 1800s, it was practically a death warrant.

I won’t spoil how Arthur contracted tuberculosis, but there was a moment when he began coughing frantically, and in that moment, I knew he was on borrowed time. I even paused the game with no concern for spoilers to search Google for a cure.

Alas, there was no cure, and if anything, this just encouraged me to explore Red Dead Redemption 2’s open world even more than before, to make sure I could prolong the life of Arthur as much as possible.

On a more cheerful note, Disastrous-Ad-203 suggested a new game plus with all unlocks and upgrades available from Chapter 2 onwards, which is a great idea.

Hopefully, Rockstar Games will officially announce the new-gen release of Red Dead Redemption 2 sooner rather than later, and when they do, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
