GTA 6 Meets John Wick in Wild New Action RPG

A new action game that combines John Wick with GTA VI is hitting Steam, and it might be one to add to your wishlists.

2026 is already starting to look pretty stacked, and it seems as though this Max Payne-esque action game is worth a look.

Blackwood from AttritoM7 Productions has a pretty fun premise where you play as a DVD store owner who operates by night as an assassin. It’s here where you descend upon the city’s underworld and take on various contracts.

Judging from that description, as well as the various images and footage out for the game at the moment, it’s pretty clear that Blackwood’s creators have been watching a lot of John Wick and playing Max Payne.

I mean, it’s moody and gritty and really nails the dark atmosphere that both of those series entail. The action looks brutal and the animations in particular are very fluid.

There’s a brand new gameplay trailer if you’d like to see it for yourself. The trailer showcases some action gameplay in which the player takes down waves of enemies on a busy city street.

The contextual combat actions made by the player character is Blackwood’s signature mechanic, where a countless number of ‘gun-fu’ moves can be used to takedown enemies in a fluid manner.

This includes using hand-to-hand combat or the environment to defeat those shooting at you. It’s a system that AttritoM7 calls “grounded, weighty, and satisfying to master”.

Of course, AttritoM7 knows that the game is nothing without an interesting story to match the intense combat. From what we’ve been teased so far, it sounds like Blackwood will find a mix of dark humour with gritty neo-noir storytelling that will reel players in.

“Your store is more than just a front — it’s where you live, decorate, and roleplay a ‘normal’ existence,” it says of Blackwood’s story. “Buy and sell DVDs, change outfits, interact with your apartment, and explore small RPG elements that make your dual identity feel tangible. The contrast between day and night defines the world and the choices you make.

“With Marvel-style narrative flair, Blackwood introduces a cast of flawed, human characters navigating a violent city full of secrets. Every ad, tattoo, and poster tells a story. Every mission pulls you deeper into a web of conspiracies and consequences.”

Blackwood doesn’t have a release date yet, but AttritoM7 is targeting a Q3 2026 release date. So, it should hopefully avoid the GTA VI craziness by releasing it some months after. Certainly colour me interested for when this thing drops.
