You can check out one of the best horror games this year for free on Steam, and it’s one for fans of Resident Evil and Dead Space.
We’ve been blessed with some fantastic games this year, and with just shy of a few months to go, we’ve still got plenty of time for a few bangers to make a Game of the Year claim.
A few of my favourite games this year included the likes of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Silent Hill f and Ghost of Yōtei, to name a few. I know, I’m missing a ton more games, but I’d be here all day if I were to list them all.
Another favourite game of mine this year is Cronos: The New Dawn from Bloober Team. Don’t get me wrong, Bloober Team have put out some decent horror games over the years, such as Layers of Fear and Observer.
However, they’ve missed the mark a few times, also, Blair Witch and The Medium, I’m looking at you. Yet, despite games that may have just missed the mark, I could always tell that Bloober Team had it in them to stake a claim as a leading developer in the survival horror genre.
Alas, in 2024, we got just that, with my favourite game of that year, Silent Hill 2, which just so happens to be one of my favourite games of all time. So it’s no wonder that I am beyond excited for Bloober Team’s remake of the original Silent Hill, a game that I have loved for 26 years and counting.
With Cronos: The New Dawn, a game that seems to be inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, it’s not only a fantastic game, but in my humble opinion, it showed everyone that this studio isn’t just known for the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Cronos: The New Dawn is a brand new IP, and if you’re a fan of the survival horror genre, you owe it to yourself to play it, assuming you haven’t already.
“Cronos: The New Dawn is no walk in the park, and it will not hold your hand, and that’s exactly how survival horror games should be,” I said in my review.
“This is the best original IP from Bloober Team to date, and if this is a sign of things to come, aside from the upcoming Silent Hill remake, I can’t wait to see what new terrifying delights the studio has in store for us next.”

Sadly, at the time of writing, the playable demo for Cronos: The New Dawn is only available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Hopefully, it will come to other platforms soon.
