Fallout 4, like most Bethesda games, is riddled with bugs but more often than not they’re funny before they’re irritating.
You very rarely come across anything game-breaking. The worst I’ve seen in Fallout games is NPCs falling out of bounds and most of the time you can just revert to a previous save if they were important to the current quest.
Most of the time though when a bug occurs, hilarity ensues, and one player has found a rifle that’s also considered a grenade launcher by the game’s files…
The full name of the weapon found in-game is Night Vision .45 Chinese Grenade Launcher Rifle and it’s a bizarre hybrid of a regular Pipe rifle and the Chinese grenade launcher added in the next-gen update for Fallout 4.
Reddit user GamerNerdGuy stumbled across the “abomination” and was bewildered to find what looks like an ordinary rifle hitting with all of the explosive power of a missile launcher, and wanted more knowledgeable players to explain what the hell is going on.
One commenter had an explanation, saying: “The Chinese grenade launcher has a bug only in its world loot table that allows it to spawn with a pipe gun part, which makes it into this sort of hybrid. If you take it to a workbench you can undo it by crafting the regular mods.”
While it’s easily fixable I would like to ask… why would you? GamerNerdGuy explained in their post that the weapon uses .45 ammunition which is much more common than grenade launcher ammo in my experience, so surely you’ve got a better deal with this hybrid…
Other comments seemed to agree with me, like one that said “‘Abomination?’ This looks like the life of the party!”
Another added “That’s awesome. You can kill things with 3 or 4 rounds. It’s realistic damage.”
I suppose it’s also worth talking about the future of Fallout 4, as it’s believed by many that another update for the game is on the way.
Bethesda surprised us all with the next-gen update which did much more than overhaul the game’s visuals, it also added new armour and weapons like the aforementioned grenade launcher.
This Thursday, 23 October, Bethesda will livestream the 2025 Fallout Day broadcast and promise news on all of the studio’s current Fallout titles.
White many are anticipating a Fallout 3 Remastered reveal; there’s a better chance of us getting another surprise update for Fallout 4, and of course Fallout 76.
