One of the biggest parts of marketing any new James Bond related project tends to be its theme songs, and it looks like we might be getting close to an official unveiling of the theme song to the upcoming 007 First Light. As caught by Reddit user CoversationDue8475 (via IGN), a new song titled First Light has been registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). While this is far from an official announcement for now, the fact that Universal Music Group is handling the publishing of the track lends credence to it being a James Bond song. Unfortunately, the listing has seemingly been taken down since then.
Also worth noting is the fact that the track was seemingly registered on with ASCAP by Lana Del Ray, which might indicate that the pop artist might finally get her own take on a James Bond theme song. This wouldn’t be the first time that Del Rey has worked on a Bond song. However, despite her previous efforts, other tracks have instead been selected. These include the theme song for 2015’s Spectre, which ultimately made use of the track Writing’s On The Wall by Sam Smith instead.
Over the years, the James Bond movie franchise has featured several theme songs that have gone on to become quite iconic, featuring music from artists like Duran Duran, Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, and Carly Simon. Along with Sam Smith, more recent movies have featured music from artists like Chris Cornell, Adele and Billie Eilish.
Interestingly, while the main vocal theme song for 007 First Light might be performed by Lana Del Rey, the title will also see the return of the iconic James Bond instrumental theme. Back in September, audio and missions director Dominic Vega had spoken about how the track won’t just play right from the beginning however. Since the upcoming game will serve as an origin story for Bond, players will instead have to earn his iconic theme.
“Throughout the campaign he grows, and he’s earning his number – and he’s earning his themes,” said Vega, noting that “60 years of Bond, there’s a lot of sonic iconography.” This means that, while there is plenty of aspects of the franchise that IO Interactive can pull from, there will instead be an emphasis on new music. Vega also spoke about working with composer duo The Flight – comprised of Joe Henson and Alexis Smith – and the style of music that came about from this collaboration.
“They’re a really great composer duo with some amazing credits and some amazing music,” said Vega. “They’re a perfect blend of the sort of orchestral mastery that is required for Bond while contributing something modern, something that players I think will attach on to as a fantastic foot forward for the 007 franchise.”
“Their sound is somewhere between the orchestra and the synthetics, and so I think they signify as a group and a duo what we’re looking for in bringing a younger Bond who is discovering this world of MI6, this world of spycraft, espionage, and intrigue – and bringing all that to life.”
007 First Light is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 27, 2026. Check out details about how Gemma Chan will play the role of Dr. Selina Tan in the upcoming game.
