In news that doesn’t come as a surprise to us, a four-month-old PS Plus day-one game has turned out to be a financial disaster. I published at least two articles about FBC: Firebreak, in which I expressed concern about the state of the game and its future. Now, developer Remedy Entertainment has issued a “profit warning” to investors for FBC: Firebreak.

FBC: Firebreak’s future looks bleak despite launching on PS Plus and Game Pass

As spotted by PC Gamer, Remedy has said that FBC: Firebreak missed its sales targets, and despite significant feedback-based changes and a major update, the game has failed to lure in enough players.

As a result, Remedy is “recognizing a non-cash impairment” of a whopping €14.9 million, which is the game’s development and publishing/distribution cost.

A statement in Remedy’s note to investors suggests that any further major updates will depend on sustainability. In other words, we might not see a lot of significant updates, and how long FBC: Firebreak remains online is also a big question mark right now.

“While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast,” Remedy wrote.

Like many, I never really understood the decision to make FBC: Firebreak, but I’m sure Remedy has a good reason.
