Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 “Will be Loved by Everyone,” Says Director

While Square Enix has been quiet about progress on the development of the grand finale to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, game director Naoki Hamaguchi took to the stage during the Brasil Game Show 2025 to talk about the title. As caught by WCCFTech, Hamaguchi spoke about how the developers didn’t want to cut out any parts of the story or gameplay from the first two games in the trilogy.

This, he noted, is because it would mean that fans of the 1997 original would look forward to that kind of content. He also noted that this was why the original had to be split into three games for the remake.

Final Fantasy 7 is a game with a truly huge fanbase,” said Hamaguchi on stage. “We could have cut some parts and turned it into one game, but the fans of the original would never have forgiven us. If we want to tell this story using new technology, it’s not possible to do so in a single title. That’s why we made the difficult decision to split it into three parts.”

Hamaguchi also spoke about how the developers plan on wrapping the epic story of the trilogy up. He noted that the third title of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will offer a satisfactory ending that will make both new fans, as well as fans of the original, happy. He went on to note that, once the trilogy is complete, it “will be loved by everyone.”

“Of course, I already have a clear idea of the ending for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3,” he said. “I think this conclusion will appeal to both those who loved the original and those who became fans of Final Fantasy 7 thanks to the Remake series. I’m confident this new game will be loved by everyone.”

Earlier this month, Hamaguchi also spoke about the development of the title, as well as Square Enix’s renewed focus on going with a multiplatform release rather than keeping it exclusive to consoles. In an interview, Hamaguchi noted that, while “the lack of memory” on Xbox did present “some issues” for the team, all in all, the multiplatform approach hasn’t affected the game’s development much. While Hamaguchi didn’t mention whether he was specifically talking about the Xbox Series S, it is quite likely that the weaker console was the main subject, since the Xbox Series X has the same amount of RAM as the PS5.

As for how the team is handling development for multiple platforms, Hamaguchi noted that it has “designated teams working on each platform so that our multiplatform approach won’t impact the development whatsoever.” While development has been going well otherwise, he also noted that, “For the Xbox version, like many other publishers, I think we did see some issues with the lack of memory compared with other platforms.”

With the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S release of the first game of the trilogy – Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade – coming out on January 22, 2026, Square Enix has also confirmed that it has plans to bring the rest of the games in the trilogy on all platforms as well.
