Although there are thousands of great PS4 and PS5 games on the PlayStation Store, the digital storefront is notorious for its slop. Shovelware has plagued the PS Store for years, and in some cases, has caused problems for other developers. It seems Sony may be cracking down on these blatant cash grabs, as over a thousand games from a single publisher have mysteriously been removed.
Over 1,000 shovelware games from ThiGames removed from the PS Store
According to streamer Rob Thanatos, every game developed and published by ThiGames has been delisted from the PS Store. Before being removed, they had the fourth most games on the digital storefront, clocking in at 1,194 games. The company is known for its The Jumping series, like The Jumping Taco and The Jumping Pizza, as well as the Quiz Thiz series.
The response from PlayStation players to the removal of ThiGames games is positive. On the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit post regarding the delistings, many of them point out how these games are typically made for players who want easy Platinum trophies or are clones intended to trick players into purchasing.
“Long overdue. I would like to see policies from Sony, Nintendo [to] a lesser extent, [and] Microsoft about limiting shovelware slop and AI-generated cover art on their stores,” says Reddit user GoodSelective.
“Good. Get rid of all of them,” says user Greatsnes.
Back in February 2025, IGN’s Rebekah Valentine reported on how this slop ends up on the PS Store in the first place. After speaking with developers, it seems to be a mixture of the certification process and developers tricking the system. This allows shovelware to flood sales, new releases, and recommendation pages, taking the spot away from a developer who has worked hard on their game for years.
“On all consoles, you get the opportunity to get featured, but you’re also on these automatic lists,” said a developer in the IGN report. “If people are just pumping crap into the system, you get pushed down the list. Any list. The systems are being overwhelmed and you’re going to get pushed out of there. I’ve been working on my game for six years, someone else has been working on their game for six months and makes a dozen copies of it…it’s just crushing.”
