One of the surprise critical darlings of 2025 was Dogubomb’s first-person puzzle adventure game, Blue Prince. Fans who played through hours of one of this year’s best-reviewed games are probably hoping for a sequel. Unfortunately, it seems a follow-up isn’t in the cards any time soon.
Blue Prince creator squashes hopes for a sequel
In a recent interview with IGN, Blue Prince creator Tonda Ros was asked if he would ever make a sequel. He confirmed he will not, and does not plan on making sequels to any game he creates. However, he also confirms that he will make something else, and that it will likely be “something totally different.”
“I can say I will never make a sequel to my work because I love creating something standalone and then going on to something completely different,” said Ros. “It will likely not even be in the same exact genres. I will probably be mixing it up. You’ll start to see overlap. You’ll start to see overlaps with some of my interests. So it will be familiar, and hopefully I’ll inadvertently have things that really worked with Blue Prince that I’ll carry on in terms of at least technicals. But yeah, we’ll see. I’m hesitant to do another 3D game because for my first game, 3D was so difficult. I really wish I did a 2D game. I probably could have done it in five years instead of eight. But yeah, I think it’ll be something totally different.”
Although it is nice to know that Dogubomb will be working on something after its success with Blue Prince, however, fans should not expect it any time soon, considering his first game took eight years to make. As seen in the quote, it is possible he goes 2D, which might lower that time frame. Until then, Blue Prince is available now on PS5, and will get its final update soon.
